I just caught the end of England’s quarter-final encounter with Portugal in the Euro2004 football tournament, thanks to the BBC’s live coverage on their website. Once again, England take it all the way to penalties, and then choke. Portugal’s goalkeeper was the one who made the final winning penalty that will take them forward to the semis, and that’s just wrong!
Totally totally irrellevant comments. Taking it all the way to penalties? Bah. We won it fair and square in 90 minutes, but the ref gave loads of free kicks to Portugal, PLUS ruled out a perfectly fair goal. Of course we’re going to lose on penalties- we’re england- but the ref robbed us of the victory that was ours. Gutted.
Ah, that aspect didn’t come through in the live highlights that I was reading, and I didn’t start listening to the commentary until halfway through extra time. I guess I was a little suspicious when I read that Campbell’s (I think?) goal right at the end got disallowed due to a foul, but I couldn’t tell for sure. Not really like being there at all, eh?
Yeah not really… it’s a shame you’ve missed out on the tournament it’s been good so far.
Bloody stupid Swiss ref. I hope he has a quiet cottage miles away from anywhere in the Alps, and enough in his account to retire on… he might like to live quietly for a few years.
