The World Court and the Israeli Fence

The pretty-but-useless World Court just finished hearing arguments about the legality of the wall that Israel is currently building between itself and “Palestine,” and it’s likely to declare it an illegal, apartheid activity that is simply unhelpful for the continuation of the peace process. This will, of course, do nothing to deter Israel from continuing construction; since Israel is already persona-non-grata among the countries who put any kind of stock in the pronouncements of the World Court, it is not going to be bothered by yet another charge that defending itself against Islamic terrorism is an illegal, apartheid activity.

That Israel’s enemies try to use the Israelis’ unwillingness to cause unnecessary bloodshed against them is evident by the arguments put forth by the (French) lawyer for the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Monique Chemillier-Gendreau:

“Because the wall, which is a disproportionate response to attacks in themselves unacceptable, the wall is the worst possible response because it is in turn a massive violation of rights and law,” she said.

I can think of a worse response than building a defensive wall. It involves Israeli tanks in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and no quarter given to any Palestinian who dares approach Israeli territory. Mass demonstrations in the streets? Broken up with real bullets and lethal force. Disruptive as the wall may be for the “innocent Palestinian victims,” Israel’s problem is with the Palestinian culture of death and its insane hatred of Jews. Until those “innocent Palestinian victims” start acting as a moderating influence within their own demented society, they’ll just have to deal with the wall between them and what they all know is a better place.
