Curiously, none of the blogs that I trawl through for my daily news intake have yet noticed that Liberia has had a head transplant. Of course, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that Taylor has finally got tired of being leaned upon by just about all the major players on the international stage. And how else could a dictator leave, but as a self-styled sacrificial lamb? Naturally, none of Liberia’s problems are Taylor’s fault- he’s just the fall guy, and he’s leaving the mess for other people to clear up. If and when Zimbabwe finally manages to pry itself away from Robert Mugabe’s grip, I expect him to depart in a similar fashion.
I have benn writing once or twice about Charles Taylor, the situation now developing is working up to being a quite fascinating tug of war.
Items on Taylor appeared 8th and 13th August with others even further back.
The arrival of the US marines today showed fine long term detailed planning and cleverly executed diplomacy on the part of the State Department. Reports come from the mainstream press of difficulties between Powell and Rumsfeld, the evidence at present indicates they are working perfectly together. Or is it clever Presidential Leadership and co-ordination?
