A few things

The redesign isn’t progressing as fast as I would like, but I suppose progress is being made.

Went to hear the Longview Symphony on Saturday night. Good pieces by Respighi and Brahms, but the auditorium was so oppressively hot and stuffy that I really didn’t enjoy it as much as I usually do. The highlight of the evening was coming back onto campus to see a truck driving around the loop, dragging some sort of sled (with two guys hanging onto it) which was busy kicking up sparks, and campus security in hot pursuit. I’m guessing that everyone involved was hit with at least a $50 fine. The pursuit of a good time in Longview can be quite expensive sometimes.

Got my taxes taken care of last week- one less item of paperwork to do- and I’ve been plotting about how I might spend my refund. My aging computer is in need of an upgrade, so I’ve been staking out Pricewatch, looking for good prices for a new processor, a new motherboard, lots and lots of memory, a combination DVD/CDRW, and a new videocard. I think I should be able to get all that for about $300- not bad, especially if I can offload my old components to LeTourneau’s large geek population and thus offset the cost a little bit.

I’m also on a photography kick, and have been looking for deals on eBay. So far I’ve bought a 67″ tripod, and am watching auctions for various filters (mostly with black and white photography in mind) and equipment bags. I looked through my box full of unsorted photographs dating back 11 years this evening. Old photos are quite remarkable, and I was surprised at the emotions and memories that they stirred up. Perhaps some sort of retrospective will be the subject of another post.
