Juan Paxety has compiled a list of all the UN resolutions pertaining to Iraq. All 18 of them since Resolution 660 on August 2, 1990 through Resolution 1441 on November 7, 2002. The new one that got tabled yesterday makes 19. I find it fascinating how many of these resolutions involved “condemnation of Iraq’s behavior” without any talk of action to accompany the condemnation. Nobody has been rushing into anything; rather, the UN has been very much dragging its feet. It’s almost as if the UN has been subconsciously aware of its growing irrelevance for years but has been living in denial, hoping nobody else will notice. The cat will be let out of the bag when/if yesterday’s resolution gets vetoed.
